The recipe

    Mix the beef mince with the breadcrumbs, egg, half the grated onion, salt and pepper, then roll into 16 small balls.

    Heat a little oil in a frying pan and brown the meatballs all over for 5-6 minutes, turning gently.

    Add the remaining onion and the garlic and cook for 2 minutes, then pour in the chopped tomatoes, tomato puree and oregano with a splash of water.

    Simmer for 18-20 minutes until the sauce is thick and the meatballs are cooked right through with no pink in the middle.

    Cook the pasta in boiling salted water until al dente, drain, then serve topped with the meatballs and sauce.
