    Heat the oven to 200C (180C fan). Soften the butter and beat in the crushed garlic, finely chopped parsley and a pinch of salt.

    Cut the loaf into thick slices, almost all the way through but keeping the base intact so it stays together.
  3. 3
    Spread the garlic butter generously into each cut, then scatter the grated cheese over the top.
  4. 4
    Wrap loosely in foil and bake for 8 minutes, then open the foil and bake for a further 3-4 minutes until crisp, golden and bubbling.

    Pull the slices apart and serve hot.
