    Heat the oven to 170C (150C fan) and line a 2lb loaf tin with baking paper. Mash the bananas to a rough puree.

    Beat the softened butter and sugar together until pale and creamy, then beat in the eggs one at a time.

    Stir in the mashed banana, then fold in the self-raising flour, baking powder and cinnamon until just combined.

    Pour into the tin and bake for 50-55 minutes, until risen and a skewer pushed into the centre comes out clean. Cover loosely with foil if it browns too fast.

    Cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a rack to cool fully before slicing.
