A cheap pork shoulder is the secret to a feast. Low and slow until it shreds with a fork, coated in a sticky homemade barbecue sauce — pile it into rolls and feed a crowd for very little.

    Rub the pork all over with the paprika, brown sugar and a good pinch of salt and pepper. Sit it on the sliced onion in the slow cooker.

    Mix the ketchup, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and crumbled stock cube with a splash of water, and pour over.

    Cook on LOW for 8 hours, until the pork pulls apart easily.
  4. 4
    Shred with two forks, stir back through the sauce, and pile into soft rolls with slaw.
