1Thinly slice the potatoes and leeks, and rub an ovenproof dish with the cut garlic clove.

2Layer the potatoes and leeks in the dish, seasoning each layer with salt and pepper.

3Warm the milk and cream together, pour over the potatoes and scatter the grated cheese on top.

4Cover with foil and bake at 190C for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake a further 15 minutes until golden and tender.
