Beef mince version of shepherd's pie — spelled differently because it's "cottage" not "shepherd". Same comforting tray, slightly different soul. Equally brilliant the next day.

    Boil peeled potatoes 18 minutes. Drain, mash with butter and milk.

    Brown beef mince in a pan, drain fat. Add chopped onion and diced carrot, cook 8 minutes.

    Stir in tomato puree, thyme, Worcestershire and stock. Simmer 15 minutes.

    Tip into a dish. Spoon mash on top, fork the surface for crispy peaks.
  5. 5
    Bake at 200°C for 25 minutes. Rest 10 minutes. Serve with peas.
