Properly comforting British one-pot — pork sausages braised with butter beans and tomatoes until soft, sticky and savoury. Mop it up with crusty bread or pile over mashed potato. Ridiculously cheap for what it delivers.

Instructions

  1. 1
Heat the oil in a heavy casserole and brown the sausages on all sides for about 5 minutes. Lift them out.
  2. 2
Add the sliced onions to the same pan and cook gently for 8 minutes until soft, then add the garlic and paprika and cook a minute more.
  3. 3
Stir in the tomato puree, chopped tomatoes, drained butter beans and stock. Bring to a simmer.
  4. 4
Return the sausages, scatter over the herbs and simmer uncovered for 25 minutes until the sauce is thick and the sausages cooked through.
  5. 5
Taste, season with salt and pepper, and serve with crusty bread or mashed potato.
