Hungarian beef stew with paprika, onions and red pepper, simmered slowly until the beef falls apart. Soup-stew hybrid. Eat with crusty bread or buttered noodles.

    Cube the beef. Brown in oil in a heavy pot. Set aside.

    Soften chopped onions for 12 minutes until very soft. Off the heat, add paprika, garlic, caraway.

    Return beef with tomatoes, stock and chopped peppers. Simmer covered 90 minutes.

    Add cubed potatoes, simmer another 30 minutes until tender.
  5. 5
    Stir in marjoram. Top with parsley. Serve with sour cream and crusty bread.
